Man arrested after with stolen gun

An Indianapolis man was arrested after police found a stolen handgun in his car during a traffic stop early Thursday morning.

Korahl Williams, 23, was arrested on charges of theft or receiving stolen property and carrying a handgun without a license.

A Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped Williams for speeding on State Road 37, near Smith Valley Road at 2:20 a.m. Thursday. The deputy saw a handgun in the glove box as Williams was looking for the vehicle’s registration, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report said. A search of the gun’s serial number showed that it had been reported stolen in Hendricks County, the report said.

Williams told the deputy he couldn’t recall where he had bought the gun. Williams was also wearing body armor and told the deputy he had been threatened and felt he needed the gun and body armor for protection, the report said.

Williams, 8234 Barry Road, was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was released on $2,200 bond.
