Letter: Life lessons start with Coach Moore

To the editor:

I am writing today as a student from Center Grove High School who never played on any team for Coach Eric Moore but knew him and his family well. I was any other ordinary student who was involved in show choir and the arts throughout my time at CGHS. I was close with Coach Moore’s young children having babysat them a handful of times.

Coach Moore supported me in my show choir by coming to my shows with his family and always had something kind and respectful to say to me. Comments I remember him making to me included “how outstanding of a student I was” and “how proud of me he was.” He also brought his entire family to my open house to support my graduation from high school. Coach Moore dedicates so much time into his success as a football coach and the way in which he coaches and instructs his players proves why he also has so many career wins and accomplishments.

I have twin brothers who are graduating from CGHS this year who would tell you how much football has shaped them into the men they are today, one attending West Point Military Academy and the other with a scholarship to play football at Taylor University. I can honestly say without the instruction and dedication CGHS football has given them, they would not be who they are today. Those life lessons start somewhere with coaching and for Center Grove it’s at the top with Coach Eric Moore.

I stand with him, his coaching style, his family and who he is as a person. I’ve been out of the high school four years now and he makes an effort to always ask how I am doing. I encourage you to evaluate the impact he has made on so many others, and to not outweigh these comments by the ones that may have other negative suggestions. Thank you for reading this.
