Baseball

Warriors grab two road wins

Whiteland picked up a pair of quality road victories on Saturday, defeating Crawfordsville 4-2 and outslugging North Montgomery by a 9-5 score.

Against the Athenians, Chase Bennett drove in a pair of runs to help lock up the win for Tyler Wick, who struck out nine and allowed just three hits. Iyan Pelfree smacked a three-run homer to seal the victory against the Chargers.

Softball

Grizzly Cubs hammer Rushville

Izzy Harrison went 3 for 5 and drove in four runs to help lead Franklin to a 13-1 rout of Rushville on Saturday.

Emma Rutan was 4 for 4 with a pair of runs batted in for the Grizzly Cubs (4-12), while Payton Parker and Kendyl Harrison each had two RBIs as well.

Girls tennis

Trojans finish second in MIC

Ellie Strube finished first at No. 2 singles, leading Center Grove to a second-place finish at the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference tournament.

Isabella Schoolcraft (No. 1 singles), Jillian Garrett (No. 3 singles) and the No. 2 doubles team of Holyn Aukerman and Abby Hoard all earned second-place finishes. Emily Hoy and Ashlee Fisk took third at No. 1 doubles.

Boys golf

Trojans dominate tourney

Center Grove crushed a strong 17-team field at the Bloomington North Invitational on Saturday, shooting a 277 to win by 20 strokes over runner-up Brebeuf at Cascades Golf Course.

Sam Jean was the medalist with a 67, with Noah Gillard (68) and Logan Anderson (70) finishing second and tied for third individually. The Trojans broke the previous tournament scoring record by 15 shots.

Grizzly Cubs finish fifth

Franklin placed fifth in a 21-team field at the Spring Preview tournament. Damon Dickey shot a team-best 72 to tie for seventh individually, while Javan Johnson added a 75 and Blake McIntire finished at 80.

Lancers finish seventh

Despite a 77 from Bladen Hancock, who tied for second as an individual, Edinburgh placed seventh as a team at the Hauser Invitational at Clifty Creek on Saturday.

Doublin accepts scholarship

Franklin senior Kloie Doublin signed a letter of intent Saturday to continue her powerlifting career at Midland University in Nebraska.

Doublin, who set four world records in winning her weight class the IPF World Championships last year in Belarus, was awarded the largest scholarship ever given to an American powerlifter, male or female.
