Nailers Brewing to open to the public

The Whiteland area’s first craft brewery will open its doors today, serving up its freshly brewed beers and offering live music for the occasion.

Nailers Brewing Co. has planned a celebration starting at 4 p.m. today. The brewery will debut its eclectic range of beers, including its GFI Blonde, Nailers IPA and Sledgehammer Stout.

Blues artist Gene Deer will perform a live acoustic set. The Indianapolis mainstay is one of the legendary voices in the Midwest blues-rock scene, and Deer has opened for bands as diverse as the Marshall Tucker Band, .38 Special and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

The brewery, which is located at 6001 US 31 North, Whiteland, is owned by Steve Harmon Sr. and his son, Steve Harmon Jr. The elder Harmon has been involved in craft brewing for years, starting with his own home-brew kit. The name comes from Harmon Sr.’s primary job in remodeling and home improvement.
