Public hearing planned for senior center grant

At a public hearing next month, residents will get more information about proposed renovations to a senior center in Greenwood and be able to provide their input on the project.

The Social Of Greenwood is preparing to apply for a $500,000 grant to renovate its facility. The senior center had previously received a $20,000 planning grant from the state to create designs for the project.

Two public hearings are required as part of the process of applying for the grant. The city is required to sponsor the grant request, but won’t be contributing any funds for it. The Social will be responsible for the $55,000 in matching funds for the grant, Greenwood City Council member Chuck Landon said.

The first public hearing will be at 5:30 p.m. May 9 at the Greenwood City Building at 300 S. Madison Ave. Architects will give a presentation with details about the renovation project and residents will have a chance to speak for or against the proposal, Landon said.

The feedback from residents will be part of the information that the senior center will submit for the grant, he said.

A second hearing is planned to take place during the council meeting later that evening at 7 p.m., he said.
