Baseball

Cubs pick up conference win

Franklin scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat Mooresville, 5-4. Alec MacLennan and Luke Torrance each had three hits for the Grizzly Cubs, while leadoff hitter Luke Miles picked up two.

Miles was also the team’s starting pitcher, working six innings. Kyle Davis got the win with three innings of relief in which he allowed two hits.

Trojans lose at North Central

A five-run first inning wasn’t enough for Center Grove as it lost to North Central, 9-8, in a Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference matchup. Corey Daffron and Mikey Wyman belted homers for the Trojans, who fell to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in the MIC.

Rebels defeat Chatard

Roncalli scored a 4-2 win against Chatard as Erik Hommel was the winning pitcher.

Softball

Pioneers defeat Franklin

Freshman Izzy Harrison’s two hits and two runs weren’t enough for Franklin in a 3-2 loss to Mooresville.

The Pioneers scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning for the win. Harrison pitched a complete game for the Cubs, striking out nine, walking two and permitting two hits.

Trojans earns easy win

Center Grove lived up to its No. 1 ranking in Class 4A with a 15-1 victory at North Central in six innings.

Piper Belden had a double and triple for the Trojans, while Abby Herbst and sophomore Lauren Wackerly produced home runs, the latter a grand slam. Center Grove is now 10-0 overall and 2-0 in the MIC.

Linton shines for Rebels

Sophomore Amber Linton struck out 15 batters as Roncalli defeated Southport 10-1.

Girls tennis

Trojans down Jasper

Center Grove scored a 4-1 victory against Jasper. Isabella Schoolcraft and Ellie Strube won at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Both Trojan doubles tandems also prevailed — Emily Hoy and Ashlee Fisk at No. 1 and Holyn Aukerman and Abby Hoard at the second spot.

Whiteland tops Columbus East

The Warriors downed visiting Columbus East, 4-1. Picking up singles wins were Reese Johnson, Haley Darling and Sophie Venter, while the No. 2 doubles combination of Hannah Blum and Riley Burnside also picked up a point.

Boys golf

Braves take three-way meet

Hunter Meredith shot a 41 and Scott Russell a 43 to lead Indian Creek to a victory against Greenwood and Edinburgh at Timbergate. The Braves carded a team score of 176 compared to 197 for the Woodmen and 242 for the Lancers.

Roncalli prevails in meet

The Rebels scored a 159 to edge Brebeuf by two shots and Perry Meridian by five.

Boys volleyball

Franklin falls to Brebeuf

Franklin lost to Brebeuf, 25-15, 25-13, 14-25, 25-18. The Grizzly Cubs were led by Logan Snyder’s 13 digs, Andy Bennett’s two service aces and Owen Mahin’s 16 assists. Josiah Rockey had nine kills in the loss, which dropped Franklin’s record to 9-4.

Jackson-Davis picks up honor

Center Grove junior center Trayce Jackson-Davis picked up another honor by being named the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference boys basketball player of the year for the 2017-18 season.

Franklin College

Baseball sweeps Rose-Hulman

Sophomore Ryan Bixler delivered three home runs for the 22nd-ranked Grizzlies as they swept a doubleheader with Rose-Hulman. Franklin won by scores of 10-2 and 5-3.
