Larry Kent Boner

MARTINSVILLE

Larry Kent Boner, 78, a lifelong resident of Martinsville, died on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 4:49 am surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Martinsville, Indiana, on Tuesday, January 16, 1940 to the late Kenneth I. and Harriett (Deer) Boner.

Larry was an energetic and proud resident of Martinsville, more specifically, Green Township, where he was actively involved for many years. He graduated from Martinsville High School with the class of 1958, serving as President of FFA during his senior year and Vice-president his junior year. He was also a 20+ year precinct committeeman, longtime volunteer at the Green Township Fire Department and a familiar face at the Green Township Lemon Shake-up stand at the Morgan County Fair for many years.

No stranger to work, Larry worked two jobs most all of his life all while devoting 30+ years to Allison’s Detroit Diesel, retiring in the mid 1990’s. Shortly after retirement, Larry was offered another career opportunity that he accepted graciously and loved each and everyday for the following fifteen years. He worked for the Center Grove School corporation as a custodian and grounds keeper until retiring in 2012.

Larry was a Christian man who loved and adored his family and was a member of the Emmanuel Church of Greenwood. In 1996, he started hosting the annual “Bean Bash” for family and friends; an event that grew in popularity each year. He also loved to cut his grass, garden and attend all sporting events at Center Grove High School.

He leaves behind several friends and family that will miss him dearly including his wife of fifty-one years, Josefa Maria (Kolb) Boner of Martinsville; whom he married on April 15, 1967; three sons, Edward F. (wife, Connie Lynn) East of Somerville, TN, Jeffery K. Boner of Martinsville and Scott A. Boner of Trafalgar, IN; two daughters, Arleen M. East of Martinsville and Stacey L. (husband, Jeff) Prather of Chesapeake, VA; two brothers, Curt (wife, Mary) Boner of Bargersville, IN and Brent Boner of Madison, IN; two sisters, Anita (husband, Phil) Martin and Star Fallahay both of Martinsville; eight grandchildren, Alisha Schwab, Jeremey, Chris, Zach, Kevin and Andy Boner and Keenan and Preston Prather and nineteen great grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Erika Boner.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, April 17th from 4-8:00 pm and from 9:30- 10:30 am on Wednesday, April 18th at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. Rev. Marion Glover will conduct a service celebrating Larry’s life on Wednesday, April 18th beginning at 10:30 am at the funeral home and he will be laid to rest following the ceremony in IOOF Cemetery in Waverly, Indiana.
