FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Authorities say divers have pulled a body from a garbage truck that drove off a Florida highway and into a canal.

The Sun Sentinel reports that the crash occurred on Alligator Alley in western Broward County Friday afternoon.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the truck had been heading east from nearby Collier County when it drove off the road for unknown reasons. The garbage truck was fully submerged.

A Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crew responded, and divers immediately began searching the water.

The dead man pulled from the truck wasn’t immediately identified.
