Police seek help with fraud suspect

Police are asking the public for help in identifying a woman they said attempted to cash a stolen check at a Greenwood bank last month.

A woman going through the drive-thru of First Merchants Bank at 901 S. State Road 135 in Greenwood shortly before 5 p.m. March 8 attempted to cash a check, a Crime Stoppers news release said.

The employee became suspicious when the identification didn’t match the woman and found the check was stolen. The woman drove off before police arrived, the release said.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000. Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers at 317-262-8477 or 800-222-8477, the release said.
