TAMPA, Fla. — A 60-year-old Florida man is accused of setting off a pipe bomb in his back yard.

Tampa police spokesman Steve Hegarty said in a news release that Joseph Caltagirone faces a felony charge of discharging a destructive device. He was released on a $2,000 bond.

Hegarty said police responded to the sound of an explosion in a Tampa neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon. They questioned two men, including Caltagirone, who were at the home. The other man has not been charged and no one was injured.

Investigators found remnants of the PVC pipe bomb in the yard. The explosion left a divot in the ground.

Police closed off a four-block area for a short time as they investigated.

Jail records don’t list a lawyer for Caltagirone.
