MASON CITY, Iowa — Authorities say a child was injured in a fire that broke out in a downtown Mason City apartment.

Firetrucks were dispatched around 7 p.m. Tuesday to the apartment, which is situated above a commercial building.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports that a police officer was seen taking a child to an ambulance and comforting a woman who’d left the apartment with the child.
