TUCSON, Ariz. — Police have released the name of a man who was shot on Tucson’s southwest side and later died at a hospital.

They say the victim was 36-year-old Roberto Varela and the death is being investigated as a homicide.

Police say the shooting occurred about 1 a.m. last Friday.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired and found Varela sitting inside a car with obvious gunshot trauma.

Paramedics with the Tucson Fire Department transported him to a hospital, where he died Sunday.

Police have spoken to witnesses to the shooting, but suspects haven’t been identified yet and their investigation is ongoing.
