Hauser takes back-to-back games against Edinburgh

Edinburgh’s baseball team established early momentum Friday, but it was short-lived in an 11-1 loss at Hauser.

Jacob Luken, the Jets’ shortstop, produced three singles as Hauser upped its season record to 3-1. Center fielder Jon Hatton chipped in a pair of doubles, while Parker Eickbush and Kameron Lawson finished with two singles each.

The game was stopped after the top of the fifth inning due to the 10-run rule.

Hauser coach Nate Long, whose team scored a 12-0 shutout of the Lancers at Edinburgh on Thursday, was pleased with the way the Jets put together a second consecutive impressive performance.

“I think us being ready has a lot to do with our pregame preparation,” Long said. “Doing the same thing that we normally do day in and day out to get the kids ready to go. We get out here early. We take ground balls and get some BP in.

“We try to do the same thing whether it’s a win or a loss the night before.”

Edinburgh leadoff hitter Parker Bryant led off the game with a perfectly placed bunt on the first pitch. The senior catcher stole second and advanced to third on Zach Murphy’s ground out.

A bloop single to right by junior pitcher Coltan Henderson brought Bryant home for a 1-0 advantage.

The Jets responded with four runs in the bottom of the first frame, started by Hatton’s one-out double. Hauser later came through with a string of two-out singles by Eickbush, Sam Meek, Kameron Lawson and Luken.

Hauser pitcher Trey Johnson, a sophomore, allowed only three Lancers’ hits and struck out seven. Johnson, who walked five, added a double in the last of his three plate appearances.

Henderson took the loss, surrendering 11 hits in 32/3 innings of work. The junior didn’t record a strikeout and walked four.

“We had a much better approach in tonight’s game than we had (Thursday),” Edinburgh coach Jason Burton said. “We got off to a hot start, which was nice to see. Hauser is a good team, and we’ve got to make those (fielding) plays to stop the bleeding.

“If we don’t, they score a lot of runs. In the field, we’ve got to be more consistent.”
