College update – April 7

Drew Naumovich had a big day at the plate March 31 for the Franklin College baseball team in a doubleheader sweep of Transylvania, going 5 for 10 with two home runs and a double. Naumovich, a Roncalli High School graduate, earned HCAC Player of the Week honors for his efforts. He scored four runs and drove in six as the Grizzlies posted 11-3 and 7-5 wins.

CENTER GROVE

Maddie London had a banner day at the plate for the Black Hills State softball team March 31, hitting three home runs in a 15-5 victory at New Mexico Highlands. London had a three-run blast in the first inning and added solo shots in the sixth and seventh. She was 7 for 14 overall during the Yellow Jackets’ four-game weekend series.

Conner Cantrell was the winning pitcher for Indiana Wesleyan in a win against St. Francis last Saturday, striking out seven over 52/3 innings of work.

Devon Hensley had two hits, walked twice and scored a pair of runs for the University of Indianapolis baseball team in its four-game weekend series against Bellarmine.

Ethan Brooks reached base five times for Grace College in a doubleheader against Goshen College, getting a base hit, drawing three walks and getting hit by a pitch. He scored one run.

Jade Doyle pitched 31/3 innings of scoreless relief for Purdue Northwest baseball in a loss at Northwood. He allowed just two hits and struck out three.

Mandy Dallas was 2 for 3 with a double, a home run and three RBIs to lead IUPUI to a 6-5 win over Wright State. Teammate Maddie Keeley tripled and scored the winning run in the victory, while Delainey Turner added a double during the weekend series.

Courtney Moriarty went 4 for 7 with two doubles, three runs scored and a pair of RBIs as Taylor softball rolled to a doubleheader sweep at Bethel College. Moriarty also pitched two innings of perfect relief, striking out five.

Abbey Pratt pitched five innings of relief for Montevallo (Alabama) in its three-game series against Auburn-Montgomery, earning a win and a save.

Xavier’s Grant Stapleton placed sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.31 at the Oliver Nikoloff Open in Cincinnati.

Austin Crowder carded a final-round 78 for IUPUI at the Manor Intercollegiate in Farmville, Virginia, helping the Jaguars to a fourth-place team finish. Crowder tied for 27th individually with a total of 233.

GREENWOOD

Georgia senior Brittany Gray bounced back from her first loss of the season, a 1-0 defeat at then-No. 7 Tennessee, by tossing a three-hit shutout against Georgia Tech on Wednesday. Gray (16-1) entered this weekend ranked second in the nation in earned-run average (0.48) for the sixth-ranked Bulldogs.

Megan Overton picked up a pitching victory and contributed two hits offensively during IUPUI’s weekend softball series against Wright State.

Davis Carter was 4 for 7 with two runs scored and one batted in during Taylor’s softball doubleheader sweep at Bethel College. Paige Wilson added a hit in her lone at-bat as the Trojans rolled to 18-0 and 7-1 wins.

Outfielder Sam Orem helped Hanover to a doubleheader split against visiting Manchester, driving in three runs with a pair of hits and a sacrifice fly.

Kaitlyn Heffner picked up her first career hit for Grace College during a doubleheader against Huntington.

GREENWOOD CHRISTIAN

Krae Sparks contributed two innings of scoreless relief for the Indiana Wesleyan baseball team against St. Francis last weekend. Sparks struck out three while yielding just two hits.

INDIAN CREEK

Sydney Williams was a perfect 3 for 3 with a double during Indiana Wesleyan’s softball sweep of Bethel last Saturday, scoring two runs and driving in three.

Freshman Dori Knight earned her first collegiate pitching win, going the distance in Grace College’s 5-4 victory against Huntington. Knight also had a base hit at the plate.

WHITELAND

Indiana Wesleyan hurler Danielle Munn tossed three innings of relief in a doubleheader sweep of Bethel, striking out six batters. She fanned six more in five innings while earning a relief win against Spring Arbor on Monday.

Branton Sanders went 2 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI in an Anderson victory over Defiance.

Caleb Deiter picked up a save with a perfect relief inning to help Trine baseball avoid a four-game series sweep against Calvin.
