PORTLAND, Maine — A Maine utility that is facing complaints of unusually high power bills says it has faith that a state audit will determine whether its systems are producing accurate bills.

About 1,500 Central Maine Power customers have contacted the Maine Public Utilities Commission about high winter power bills. The commission made a decision earlier this week that power customers disputing their bills must still pay a portion of the cost.

CMP says in a late Thursday statement that it expects an ongoing utility commission audit will fully determine if it is providing “accurate measurements of customer usage and producing bills that reflect correct customer usage.” The utility says it is also in the midst of its own internal audit. CMP says it is taking all of the customer complaints seriously.
