June S. Hathaway

FRANKLIN

June S. (Steinmuller) Hathaway, 91, of Franklin, IN, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin.

She was born August 15, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio, to John Theodore Steinmuller and Clara (Patterson) Steinmuller. She married Thomas D. Hathaway on July 6, 1946, in Cleveland, OH. He preceded her in death on August 19, 1999.

She was the church secretary at First Baptist Church in Franklin for over 25 years. She also was a homemaker. June was a 72-year member of Franklin First Baptist Church, where she had served as the financial secretary for 50 years. She was also a member of American Baptist Women Ministry and the Franklin Kiwanis Club. She was a former board member and teacher at the Franklin Girls Club and former 4-H Leader of the Blue Ribbon Boosters Club. Since 1997 she has loved dancing with her friends at Five Star Dance Studio in Greenwood.

Surviving are her children, Sally A. Cook (Thomas) of Milan, IN, Ted A. Hathaway (Brenda) of Ft. Wayne, IN, Emily S. Bradley (Jeff) of Franklin, IN; daughter-in-law, Lee Ann Hathaway of Southport, IN; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Mike Doerge of Ohio; and her companion, Carl Schermerhorn of Franklin, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Thomas J. “Jim” Hathaway on July 26, 2015; and sister, Lois Doerge.

The Reverend Homer Ford will conduct a service on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at 11 AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31, (Morton Street), in Franklin, IN. Friends may call Wednesday, April 4, 2018, from 4-7 PM at the mortuary and Thursday from 10 AM until service time. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
