Warriors split at Griffith

Chase Bennett went 3 for 4 with two runs scored, two more batted in and a pair of stolen bases as Whiteland blanked Griffith, 5-0, in their 2018 opener over the weekend. The Warriors dropped the back end of the series on Saturday, 4-0.

Luke Helton was the winning pitcher in Whiteland’s victory, striking out eight over four no-hit innings.

Softball

Trojans pick up easy pair

Jordyn Rudd and Addy Osborn both homered twice to lift Center Grove to a pair of lopsided victories in Terre Haute on Saturday.

The Class 4A No. 4 Trojans (4-0) got home runs from Rudd, Osborn, Abby Herbst and Lexi Fair in a 14-2 rout of Terre Haute South. Herbst tossed a five-hit shutout in Center Grove’s second game, a 14-0 win against Terre Haute North. Brittney York joined Rudd and Osborn with a homer in that contest.

The Trojans totaled 40 hits on the day while giving up 11.
