ALLENVILLE, Mo. — Authorities in southeastern Missouri say a 66-year-old man shot his 42-year-old son to death during an argument.

The Cape Girardeau Sheriff’s Office tells television station KFVS that Raymond Holweg, of Allenville, called dispatchers late Friday afternoon to report he had shot his son with a shotgun. Holweg was arrested and is charged with second-degree murder. He’s being held on $1 million bail.

Investigators say Holweg told deputies he and his son, Jason Holweg, were arguing when the younger man threatened to damage his father’s trailer. The older man said he retrieved the shotgun from his bedroom and shot his son in the back from about five feet away. Jason Holweg was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy has been ordered.
