Police: Car theft, gunshots likely related

Police are investigating a stolen car and two separate reports of gunshots being fired at a Greenwood apartment complex this week.

A car was reported stolen about 10:20 p.m. Monday evening at Bayshore Apartments, which is north of Main Street and east of State Road 135. The car was found shortly afterward, abandoned on a nearby road, Greenwood Assistant Police Chief Matt Fillenwarth said.

Police also responded to reports of multiple shots being fired at 5:35 a.m. Tuesday and 10:35 p.m. Wednesday at Bayshore Apartments, which is north of Main Street and east of State Road 135. Both situations are believed to be related, Fillenwarth said.

In both cases, no one was injured and no buildings or vehicles were found to have been struck by bullets, he said.

All three situations are believed to be connected, but police have not made any arrests, Fillenwarth said.

The reports of shots being fired are believed to be connected to an apartment unit, where the daughter of a resident gave her key to a friend to let them party while she was away on spring break, he said.
