Raymond ‘Ray’ Francis Younkin

Raymond “Ray” Francis Younkin, 77, of Buckeye Lake, Thornville, Ohio, passed away Friday, March 9, 2018, at Greenwood Meadows Assisted Living in Greenwood, Indiana.

Born Dec. 8, 1940, in Malta, Ohio to Hayward Clyde Younkin and Josie Marie (Wood) Younkin, Ray graduated from McLuney School and later settled in Buckeye Lake, Ohio. After retiring from Owens Corning, he continued working for many years at PoundsNursery. He enjoyed watching wrestling, being outdoors, and helping his neighbors.

Ray is survived by his son, Raymie C. Younkin (Rikki Borges) of Greenwood, Indiana; siblings, Bill Younkin; as well as nieces Beth (Pete) Pettet, Peggy (Bob) Post, Joe (Bill) Maynard, Patty (Rich) Miller, Marie Campbell, Lynn Arnold, Brenda Smith, Nina “Punk” Wheeler, Sue Hunt; and nephews, Billy “Wilber” Younkin and Richard Phillips. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Bonnie (Harley) Phillips, Nina (Junior) Durben, Wilda Fay Younkin, Dick Wood, and Bob Wood; sister-in-law, Martha Bell Younkin; and nephew Frank Phillips.

At Ray’s request, no formal service was held. A private service and celebration of life with family and friends will be held at the family farm near Corning, Ohio at later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ray’s name to the National Stroke Association, 9707 East Easter Lane, Suite B, Centennial, Colorado 80112.
