DENVER — Denver police say one person injured after a shooting connected with the search for an escaped inmate is dead.

Police said Tuesday that another person who was hospitalized in Monday night’s incident is expected to survive but they didn’t release any other details about the nature of that person’s injuries.

The shooting happened after officers trying to find 23-year-old Mauricio Venzor-Gonzalez were led to a home in suburban Aurora. Two people fled in an SUV, and shots were fired following a high-speed chase.

Police haven’t said who fired and don’t plan to release more information until interviews are complete.

Venzor-Gonzalez escaped earlier Monday while being taken to a Denver hospital and remains at large.

Authorities have said he was injured in November during a shootout with police.
