College update – March 17

Branton Sanders continues to excel at the plate for Anderson’s baseball team, collecting two hits and driving in four runs in a 12-6 loss to Central at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

The junior, a Whiteland Community High School graduate, is batting .435 as the Ravens return home from playing games in Auburndale, Florida. He also leads Anderson in runs batted in with 19 and stolen bases with nine.

WHITELAND

Taylor leadoff hitter Jared Adkins picked up a base hit in both of the team’s victories in a doubleheader sweep of Oakland City.

GREENWOOD

Sophomore pitcher Reid Werner picked up his first win of the year as the University of Indianapolis baseball team downed Maryville, 11-4. Werner worked 62/3 innings, allowing seven hits and striking out four.

Anderson junior Joslyn Leverett scored a run in each of the Ravens’ recent softball games against Ohio Wesleyan and Concordia Wisconsin.

Senior catcher Davis Carter belted a two-run homer in Taylor’s 9-0 softball victory against Asbury. Carter scored a run in her team’s 10-2 loss to Michigan-Dearborn.

Brittany Gray helped Georgia softball extend its winning streak to 23 games by picking up a win and a save in the Bulldogs’ conference wins against Arkansas. The senior’s mark as a starter this season is 11-0 after pitching a complete-game two-hitter in which she struck out 11 batters.

CENTER GROVE

Freshman Nicole Abrams pitched in seven of the eight softball games Robert Morris (Illinois) has played, either as a starter or in relief, during the team’s trip to Tuscon, Arizona. Abrams also went 2 for 4 with three RBI in a 10-6 win against Mayville State and picked up two more hits in a 9-4 victory against Viterbo.

Black Hills State catcher Maddie London went 3 for 5 with two runs batted in while losing both games of a doubleheader to Colorado Christian.

Taylor center fielder Courtney Moriarty contributed four hits, including a double and home run, in the Spartans’ 9-0 victory against Asbury.

Freshman left fielder Lexi Gaffney went 2 for 3 at the plate and scored a run in Franklin College’s 10-9 loss to Kalamazoo in the second game of a softball doubleheader.

University of Indianapolis left fielder Hanna Burris hit a double in the Greyhounds’ 9-8 victory against Purdue Northwest.

San Jacinto-North sophomore pitcher Jacob Cantleberry is off to another fast start with a 5-1 record and 1.91 earned run average. The lefthander has worked 281/3 innings with 13 hits allowed and 35 strikeouts.

Junior outfielder Devon Hensley scored a run in 14th-ranked University of Indianapolis’ 10-5 victory against Maryville.

Davidson junior Tori Long placed third in the 400-meter dash at the Coastal Carolina Invitational with a time of 58.19 seconds.

Junior Austin Crowder helped lead IUPUI men’s golf team to a win in the four-team Don Benbow Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida. Crowder shot 80-76—156 to tie for 17th overall.

FRANKLIN

Senior pitcher Olivia Paszek pitched all five innings in Franklin College’s 8-0 victory against Kalamazoo in the first game of a doubleheader. Paszek allowed two hits and struck out nine. Grizzlies first baseman Grace Paszek had a total of two hits and two RBIs in the twinbill.
