Residents can learn how to prepare for severe weather

The Johnson County Emergency Management Agency is encouraging county residents to make plans to prepare themselves for severe weather.

Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Indiana is March 18 to 24, and the agency offers the following tips to help county residents prepare for severe weather:

  • Purchase an all-hazard weather radio
  • Know the difference between watches and warnings. A watch indicates a seriously increased possibility of a thunderstorm or tornado; a warning indicates that there is a thunderstorm or tornado in the area.
  • Create a preparedness kit that includes essentials like food and water
  • Run severe weather preparedness drills

A statewide tornado drill will be at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday.
