Meth and heroin found in traffic stop

A traffic stop due to an expired license plate led a Franklin police officer to finding methamphetamine and heroin.

Mallory L. Newport, 28, Franklin, was arrested on felony charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine or narcotics and unlawful possession or use of legend drugs, and a misdemeanor charge of driving while suspended with a prior conviction.

Inside the vehicle, police found pills, heroin and a glass jar and other containers that had a total of 13 grams of methamphetamine, the Franklin Police Department report said.

Newport told police that she uses methamphetamine occasionally and does not sell it, but gives some away, the report said.

Police found that her driver’s license was suspended due to a prior conviction and that the plate was registered to a vehicle other than what she was driving, the report said.

Newport, of 301 Young St., was taken to the Johnson County jail and held on $10,000 bond.
