BALTIMORE — Police say 19 people have been arrested in a crackdown on a suspected drug ring accused of funneling heroin and fentanyl from New York City to Maryland.

The Baltimore Sun reports a two-year investigation into a Bronx-to-south Baltimore drug pipeline culminated in a raid early Tuesday. Authorities say 1,075 grams of heroin, 66 grams of fentanyl and 200 grams of cocaine were seized in the course of the investigation.

Federal agents, police and prosecutors announced the arrests at a news conference Wednesday, saying five suspected drug bosses were among those in custody with several charged with felonies. Authorities say the suspected ring supplied heroin to two Baltimore neighborhoods and neighboring Anne Arundel County.

Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby says intercepting drug activity is key to tackling spiking violence in the city.
