LONG BEACH, Calif. — Police in Southern California say an officer shot and wounded a man who pointed a gun at him during a traffic stop.

Long Beach officials say the officer opened fire Tuesday after pulling a car over and seeing someone inside armed with a handgun.

The 21-year-old suspect was struck at least once and hospitalized in stable condition.

Three other people inside the car were unhurt and detained.

Police say a gun was recovered.

Authorities say the suspect who was shot had a felony warrant for his arrest.

The shooting is under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
