ATLANTA — Police say a young boy was found wandering around an Atlanta neighborhood in freezing weather.

Atlanta police tell news outlets two women returning home around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday found the boy, who approached their car and said he was cold. An Atlanta police overnight commander said the child wasn’t dressed for the weather, clad in only a sweatshirt and pants. He’s believed to be 4 or 5 years old.

Police later determined he had been left with babysitters who had fallen asleep. While police canvassed the neighborhood, local news footage showed the boy warming up in a police cruiser and watching cartoons.

His grandfather took custody of him. His mother hadn’t been found by 5 a.m.

No charges have been filed. The Division of Family and Children Services is investigating.
