Memorial Hog Roast funds benefit local nonprofits

More than $34,000 was raised by an annual meal in December in honor of a man who helped the Good Cheer fund.

The Franklin Rotary Club presented theĀ $34,179.11 in proceeds from its 22nd annual Jim Rhoades Memorial Hog Roast to the Johnson County Good Cheer Fund and the Interchurch Food Pantry of Johnson County, who divided the funds equally.

The event is named in memory Rhoades, a longtime Franklin resident who started the event. Rhoades, a Franklin Rotary Club member, owned Rhoades True Value Hardware in Franklin, where he hosted the event in the businessā€™ parking lot for many years. Rhoades also was a Johnson County commissioner. After his death in 2005, the Rotary Club began hosting the event.
