Indy man facing robbery, battery charges

An Indianapolis man was arrested after police said he followed an acquaintance home from a bar, shoved her to the ground and attempted to take money.

Michael H. Schmaltz, 44, was arrested on charges of robbery, strangulation and domestic battery.

Deputies responded to a call about a disturbance in the 400 block of Paddock Road early Thursday morning, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report said.

A woman at the home told police that she had been at a bar with Schmaltz but had left to go home. She said that Schmaltz had followed her home, where he then pulled her from her car, choked her and threw her into a bicycle, the report said.

Witnesses told deputies that they had seen Schmaltz throw the woman to the ground and attempt to take money out of her pocket, the report said.

Schmaltz was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail where he was being held on $5,500 bond.
