SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Springfield police Chief Rick Lewis has been criticized for comments on the department’s Facebook page that he didn’t make.

The Register-Guard reports a concerned citizen contacted the mayor and city council about the comments posted by the username “RA Louie.” The comments included calling those critical of a recent arrest as “idiots,” ”dumb” and acting like a “flaming rectum.”

The citizen called for the chief to be fired.

It turns out a sergeant has the same name as the chief, and apparently that’s the Rick Lewis who posted the since-deleted comments.

The chief says he’s frustrated that his name and reputation have been connected to unprofessional comments. An investigation is underway to see if the sergeant violated department policy.

The sergeant did not respond to a request for comment from The Register-Guard.
