CHANDLER, Ariz. — Police are investigating a car crash that killed a zebra in a Phoenix suburb.

Chandler police say the zebra was struck by an SUV on Wednesday morning near the grounds where the Chandler Ostrich Festival is being held.

Chandler Chamber President CEO Terri Kimble says zebras broke out from the grounds in the morning and were wandering the road.

Only one zebra was killed.

Kimble says they are saddened by the loss of the zebra.

Chandler police Sgt. Daniel Mejia say the SUV driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
