Blazek, Hardin named to Indiana squad

The honors keep coming for local girls basketball standouts Mackenzie Blazek of Whiteland and Cassidy Hardin of Center Grove.

On Wednesday, Blazek and Hardin were among 13 players named to the Indiana All-Stars.

The team, coached by Pat McKee of Columbus North, will play a June 6 exhibition against the Indiana Junior All-Stars and then play two games against the Kentucky All-Stars — one in Kentucky on June 8 and one at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on June 9.

Joining Blazek and Hardin on the roster are Angel Baker and Michaela White of Pike, Jenasae Bishop of East Chicago Central, Leigha Brown of DeKalb, Nia Clark of Ben Davis, Amy Dilk and Tomi Taiwo of Carmel, Katlyn Gilbert of Heritage Christian, Emily Kiser of Noblesville, Anna Newman of Evansville North and Kayana Traylor of Martinsville.

This year’s Miss Basketball will be chosen from among those players, with the winner to be announced at the Indiana Sports Awards Dinner on April 29 at Clowes Memorial Hall in Indianapolis.

All 13 players are signed with Division I programs, including seven bound for the Big Ten. Blazek is headed to Illinois, while Hardin and Traylor will play together at Purdue. Dilk and Kiser are teaming up at Michigan, Taiwo is going to Iowa and Brown will suit up for Nebraska.

Three others will play for in-state colleges — Gilbert (Notre Dame), Newman (Evansville) and White (Indiana State).
