Suspect still at large after police pursuit

A suspect who crashed a stolen vehicle in the Center Grove area evaded officers after a nearly three-hour search Saturday evening.

Officers attempted to stop a vehicle for driving 52 mph in a 30 mph zone on Smith Valley Road around 8 p.m. Saturday. The vehicle had been reported stolen earlier that day, Greenwood Assistant Police Chief Matt Fillenwarth said.

The driver did not stop and a deputy placed stop sticks, which deflate vehicle tires, near the intersection of Smith Valley and Peterman roads, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report said.

The vehicle crashed into a fence west of State Road 37 and the driver ran from the vehicle, the report said.

More than a dozen officers spent about three hours looking for the suspect using two police dogs along with drones from the Bargersville and Wayne Township fire departments, but the driver was not found, Fillenwarth said.
