BISMARCK, N.D. — North Dakota state officials say a broken valve on a storage tank caused nearly 17,000 gallons of oil to spill at a well last month.
State Oil and Gas Division officials say they were notified about the spill on Feb. 21. It occurred at the well about four miles north of Flaxton, near the Canadian border.
Officials say all of the fluid and most of the impacted soil has been removed. The cleanup will continue this spring when a new layer of topsoil can be placed at the site.
