Choirs perform well at jazz festival

Local choirs earned top finishes at a jazz festival at Whiteland Community High School and Franklin’s choirs all placed in the top three at an Indianapolis competition.

Indian Creek High School’s Treble Choir received a silver rating and the school’s show choir received a gold rating at the Indiana State School Music Association jazz festival.

Greenwood Community High School’s Jade Vocal Jazz group earned a gold rating with distinction at the festival. Rachel Turnbill, Jeffery Elsey, Haden Cain and Helen Wise all earned outstanding solo awards.

Franklin Community High School’s Signature Sound choir was named grand champions at the MIC Choir Competition at North Central High School. Bella Voce earned first runner-up. The Women’s Sensations show choir took second runner-up. McKenna Melton was also named best performer. The Heritage Singers show choir also took second runner-up. Addie Mudd was also named best performer.

In the solo competition, Kevin Thompson was named grand champion in the Classical Solo Division. In the Broadway/Pop Solo Division, Jaxson Deno earned first place male and Erin Jones was first place female and grand champion. Mudd was named Overall Best Female Performer of the competition winning an $800 scholarship to Showchoir Camps of America.
