Hoyt D. Parmer

COLUMBUS

Hoyt Douglas Parmer, 96, of Columbus, passed away at 12:25 a.m. March 3, 2018, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Hoyt was born October 25, 1921 in New Point, Indiana, the son of William Clyde and Nannie Harding Parmer. He married Ethel Westerfeld December 13, 1942, with whom he celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary this past December.

Hoyt graduated from New Point High School, Chicago Technical College, and was a member of St. George Lutheran Church in Edinburgh. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving honorably in World War II. Hoyt was previously employed by Amos Molded Plastics, and retired in 1986 as President of Como Plastics. He served as Vice President of the Edinburgh School Board, and held memberships in Edinburgh Jaycees, Edinburgh Masonic Lodge #100 F&AM, Chapter President of SCORE, as well as President and Vice President of Edinburgh Exchange Club.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service Tuesday. Private entombment will be at Garland Brook Mausoleum.

Memorials may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, or to the donor’s choice of charities.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel Parmer of Columbus; a son, Michael (Mary) Parmer of Traverse City, Michigan; a daughter, Nancy (Gary) Smith of North Vernon; grandchildren, Dawn Bowers, Aaron Smith, Matthew Parmer, and Nicholas Parmer; great-grandchildren, Isaac Bowers, Olivia Bowers, Merlin Smith, and Francis Parmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as a brother, Walter Parmer.
