Harold Buck Eaker

WHITELAND

Harold Buck Eaker, 91, of Whiteland, was called home on March 1, 2018, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He was born in Charleston, Missouri, on January 11, 1927, to Odes and Elsie Eaker.

He was a conductor for Conrail for 35 years. His railroad buddies knew him as “Horizontal Harold.” He retired in 1989.

Harold owned and operated Eakers Fruit Market in Middleton and Anderson for 30 years.

He was an Army veteran.

He enjoyed raising his black German Shepard dogs. He also enjoyed meeting his railroad buddies once a month at Meijer in Anderson.

Harold loved his family vacations, church family and gospel singing.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Barbara Eaker, who he thought the world revolved around. His children, Anita (Richard) Hill of Whiteland, Brenda (John) Rhodes of Middleton, Nancy (late Dannie) Witter of Bath, Theresa (Roger) Self of Greenwood; a sister, Dortha (Norman) Alexander of Anderson; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Miller; son, Bruce Eaker; and Ronnie Figg.

A visitation will be Sunday, March 4 at Jessen Funeral Home, 729 N. U.S. 31, Whiteland, IN 46184 from 3 to 5 p.m. Also, a visitation Monday March 5 at Columbus Avenue Church of Christ, 4620 Columbus Ave., Anderson, IN 46013, from 11 a.m. to noon with services following.
