JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Florida man has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering his elderly mother.

The Florida Times-Union reports that 52-year-old Scott Edwin James Rolnick Sr. was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to first-degree murder and other charges.

Authorities say Rolnick was arrested last June after officers found him covered in blood in 76-year-old Mary Anne Rolnick’s stolen Cadillac.

Evidence shows the woman was strangled and stabbed about 119 times at her Jacksonville home. Her body was discovered by her grandson, who told police his father had a history of stealing from the woman and had just been kicked out of her home.
