CARSON CITY, Nev. — A 49-year-old Nevada inmate who was serving up to a life sentence on sexual assault charges has died at the state prison in Carson City.

The Nevada Department of Corrections confirmed Wednesday that Daniel Stenner died on Tuesday at the medical facility inside the Northern Nevada Correctional Center.

Stenner had been in prison since October 1996.

A Washoe County judge sentenced him to 10 years to life for two counts of sexual assault with the use of a deadly weapon and up to six years for lewdness with a child under 14.

No other details have been released.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine his official cause of death.
