WAYNE, N.J. — Police in New Jersey say a man attempted to run over a police officer while fleeing the scene of a domestic dispute.

Wayne Police Capt. Laurence Martin says police responded Tuesday night to an alleged domestic dispute. The Record reports when police arrived, the suspect attempted to run over a police officer trying to stop the man from leaving.

The officer was not injured.

Police say the suspect hit a police vehicle while fleeing and was later caught in Fairfield after crashing into another vehicle.

The man is being held in county jail, where he faces multiple charges including eluding police and aggravated assault.
