NEW YORK — The Trump administration is taking a new approach to how it doles out federal family-planning grants.
The White House will now place a greater emphasis on abstinence and make it harder for Planned Parenthood to receive government grants. Planned Parenthood has long been a target of conservatives because it provides abortions.
Major reproductive health organizations are voicing serious concerns about the changes. The president of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists says the new guidelines “turn back the clock on women’s health.”
The Department of Health and Human Services says nothing is stopping Planned Parenthood from continuing to apply for the grants. The grants are projected to total about $260 million.
