SALEM, Ore. — An Oregon state representative, who might seek a state Senate seat, called in to a political talk show in 2009, saying he wasn’t “comfortable” with the thought of a woman president.

The Register-Guard reports Republican Rep. Dallas Heard called in to Rush Limbaugh’s show before he held public office, saying he had “a lot more confidence and a lot more comfort” under male leadership.

Heard says he was “a brash jerk” nearly decade ago, but “I’d like to believe I’ve really changed.” He says he now has no issue with women in leadership roles.

Heard was first elected into office in 2014. He has indicated interest in replacing Republican Sen. Jeff Kruse, who is resigning in mid-March after an investigation determined he had harassed women with unwelcome physical contact.
