NEW HAVEN, Conn. — New Haven Police are investigating the stabbing death of a local man.

Police say Stanley Maurice McLellan, was stabbed in the head when responding to his home shortly after midnight Tuesday. A man had gone to the residence to confront McLellan who police say the incident escalated to an altercation that resulted in the fatal injury. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The weapon likely used in the stabbing was recovered.

Neighbors tell the New Haven Register they did not see or hear anything overnight. The man involved was interviewed at the scene and was later released uncharged.

The investigation remains open.
