In the newsroom today: potholes, basketball sectionals and the flu

If you’re a Franklin motorist, you might have noticed that roadwork is getting started as planned. First stop: The intersection of King Street and Eastview Drive is being readied for a roundabout to be built.

For the first time this year, lanes were closed at the intersection when I came through this morning.

If you missed our guide to the more than a dozen upcoming projects in the city, go here.

If you drive on County Line Road, you are likely doing the pothole shuffle. Lots of work is needed, but this road is the responsibility of the City of Indianapolis.

Here’s what Emerson Avenue at County Line Road looks like this week:

Here’s what else is in the works in the newsroom:

Greenwood says no to hotel.

A business owner wanted to rezone some of her land on Stones Crossing Road, near State Road 135, to add a hotel to her event venue. But the city said no at a meeting on Monday night, and about 100 neighbors against the project attended. We’ll break down the reasons for the denial. Here’s the background you need to know from our story last week.

Rebuilding roads.

Three Greenwood streets are too damaged for a paving job to bring them up to par, so a rebuilding project is in the works. Take note if you use Commission Road, Emerson Avenue or Honey Creek Road, which serves as a sort of backup corridor to State Road 135.

Should you still get a flu shot?

My household, just like so many others, has been through the ringer with the influenza and other bugs, and the doctors keep saying the pace of the flu is going to continue for several more weeks, and you can still get a flu shot if you didn’t get vaccinated in the fall. We are talking with doctors and patients about whether people are heeding the advice and how late is too late.

Sectional mania.

It’s one of my favorite times of the year: the high school basketball state tournament begins today, leading into the month of March madness. We’ll have sports reporters and photographers at all the games tonight. Whiteland, Center Grove and Indian Creek are the first teams up to try to keep their seasons alive. Click here for a guide to the games.
