Lowell Gene Perry

BLOOMINGTON

On February 21, 2018, Lowell Gene Perry (Gene) of Bloomington, IN, left our world for his next adventure. Gene was beloved by everyone who had the pleasure of being with him. He was the embodiment of a life well lived and to that end he inspired those he touched to be better in the most important ways. He will be missed by many.

Gene is survived by his wife, Kathrine Glass, his children, Rob Perry (wife Jennifer), Lisanne Perry, Joseph Spear (husband Curt Shearer), and Margaret Spear. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Grace Perry, Margaret Perry and Wesley Houser, and many loving nieces, nephews, sister and brothers-in-law. He was grateful to have the love, care and support of his nieces, Brea Perry and Brooke DeRam, and devoted friends, Lisa Walker and Mike Hunckler, during the last months of his life. He is also survived by Rob and Lisanne’s mother, Jane Perry.

Gene spent his entire life in Indiana with a long, successful career and phenomenal family life. Gene grew up with his brother Rus in Franklin, Indiana, and graduated from Franklin College. He went on to get his MBA at Indiana University as he embarked on a lifetime career in healthcare administration with Bloomington Hospital (IU Health Bloomington). Gene began his career in human resources and ended it as CEO at Bloomington Hospital of Orange County (now IU Health Paoli). His proudest professional achievements were improving the quality and availability of healthcare in an underserved area. Although he had been honored with awards and recognition over the years, he remained humble and grateful to serve. Gene felt strongly that his true reward came from the everyday moments and connections he made with patients, co-workers, friends, family – even mere acquaintances.

Far and above his love of learning, reading and sometimes golf, Gene was deeply in love with his family. He worked tirelessly until the end taking care of others until those who loved him finally had the chance to return the favor. The care of IU Health Hospice nurses, doctors and staff were deeply appreciated. In his last act of selfless generosity, he donated his remains to the IU School of Medicine so others could learn.

Visitation will be at the Allen Funeral Home & Crematory, 4155 S. Old St Rd 37, Bloomington, on Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Bloomington (uubloomington.org) at 3:00pm on Friday, March 2, 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Southern Indiana Community Health Care (sichc.org) or the charity of your choice.

Gene, we will miss you more than you’ll ever know. Even now we can hear your response, “I don’t get it.” May the other world greet you with an overly sweet margarita, crushed ice, and a guilt-free menu. We can’t wait to see you again.

You are invited to share a memory or leave an online condolence to the family at www.allencares.com.
