7 county schools awarded Four Star designation, honor

Seven Johnson County schools were designated Four Star Schools by the state based on how their students scored on standardized tests and other performance measures.

The Four Star designation was given to 238 Indiana schools based on their performance during the 2016-17 school year, according to a news release from the Indiana Department of Education.

The Johnson County schools that received the designation were Sugar Grove Elementary School, Maple Grove Elementary School, Center Grove Elementary School, Center Grove Middle School Central,  Center Grove High School, Clark Elementary School and Greenwood Community High School.

For a school to receive the award, they must receive an A for the previous school year and their students must be in the top 25 percent on ISTEP tests.
