CLEVELAND — Police say a car fleeing officers struck and seriously injured a teen in Cleveland.

East Cleveland Sgt. Scott Gardner says officers tried to pull over the car around 9:45 p.m. Thursday after a license plate check revealed the vehicle was stolen.

The driver refused to stop, and Gardner says police pursued the vehicle for a short time before calling off the chase.

The car continued and struck a 14-year-old boy. Garnder says the car didn’t stop after the collision.

The teen has been taken to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital where he is reported in critical condition with head injuries.

Authorities are still searching for the vehicle.
