Man arrested after drugs, gun found in traffic stop

A Greenwood man was arrested after police said they found drugs and a gun in his car during a traffic stop.

James A. Mills, 26, was arrested on charges of dealing marijuana, carrying an unlawful handgun, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance.

Police stopped a vehicle at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday south of Franklin on U.S. 31 and the deputy smelled marijuana and asked Mills to get out of the vehicle, the report said.

Deputies searched the vehicle and found a handgun Mills was not licensed to carry, along with drugs, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report.

Deputies found a bag of methamphetamine in Mills’ pocket. When they searched the car, they found bag containing about a pound of marijuana and three different types of prescription pills, the report said.

Mills, 945 Ramblin Road, was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail. He was released on $16,800 bond.
