LAS VEGAS — The city of North Las Vegas is planning to file a lawsuit against pharmaceutical drug companies to recoup the city’s costs of dealing with the effects of opioid addiction.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the city council on Wednesday hired the Las Vegas law firm Eglet Prince to file the suit, aiming to recover the money spent on the opioid crisis through law enforcement, medical treatment and social services.
Attorney Robert Eglet says Lyon County in western Nevada is considering joining the suit, and the city of Henderson is in negotiations with the firm.
Eglet says his firm has budgeted $15 million for suit.
City attorney Micaela Moore says the firm will cap contingent fees at 25 percent, and the city will not pay anything to file the suit.
