Dorothy Ellen Meador

FRANKLIN

Dorothy Ellen Meador, 76, passed away peacefully at her home in Franklin, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, February 18, 2018.

She was born July 6, 1941 in Morgan County to the late Harold and Stella (Crouch) Parr.

She married the late Jerry D. Meador on July 2, 1963. They spent 39 years together as a fun-loving couple with a wonderful sense of humor, enjoying their family and friends.

After both of their retirement, hers from the United Telephone Co., they spent years traveling around the country in their fifth-wheel camper.

Survivors include her two beloved daughters and their spouses, Stacy and Tony Parkey and Terrie and Michael Poindexter, all of Franklin. She is also survived by her two granddaughters, Ellen (Craig) DuKate of Franklin, and Katelyn Parkey of Terre Haute; and two great-grandsons, who quickly replaced everyone listed above as her “favorites” — Cason and Callen DuKate. Other survivors include her loving sister, Marilyn Kean, of Franklin, and her twin brother, Donald (Glenna) Parr, of Morgantown. She is also survived by many close nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law.

After the death of her husband, she spent her time babysitting and spending time with her great-grandsons that she absolutely adored.

On her “off days” from visiting and sitting the boys, she spent them watching her favorite soap operas or shopping and visiting local casinos with her cousin and best friend Diane Fitzpatrick.

She also enjoyed vacations to Florida and Mississippi.

The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a celebration of Dorothy’s life on Thursday, February 22 at 11:30 a.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call on Wednesday, February 21 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made on Dorothy’s behalf to the American Liver Organization or the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

In lieu of flowers, head to Indiana Grand Casino in Shelbyville, and drop a $20 in a slot machine in her honor.
